5 Best Recipes for Vegan Sandwiches

It isn’t always easy going vegan, but it’s getting better all the time. Once upon a time, vegan options at restaurants and grocery stores were limited, but today that’s no longer the case. Thanks to the internet, it’s easier than ever to find vegan and vegetarian-friendly foods and condiments like Grandma Jones’ Pepper Jelly.

Grandma Jones’ recipe for homemade pepper jelly contains fresh peppers, pepper flakes, sugar, white wine vinegar, and fruit pectin. That’s all; no animal byproducts. That makes our pepper jelly a healthy and delicious addition to any vegan diet.

Here at the Jones household, one of our favorite ways to enjoy pepper jelly is as a spread for sandwiches. Below, we’ve put together a list of recipes for our favorite vegan sandwiches so you can enjoy the tongue-tingle joys of Grandma Jones’ Pepper Jelly, too!

1. Avocado & Cucumber Sandwich

Like pepper jelly, avocado is enjoying a modern-day renaissance as a must-have ingredient for today’s home cooks. Avocado spread on toast is an especially popular choice for both vegans and non-vegans.

If you’re one of the millions of people who love avocado toast, here’s a sandwich that is sure to place. Instead of relying on a store-bought spread, try using freshly sliced avocados for maximum flavor impact. You might be surprised how much of a difference it makes.

Ingredients

  • Avocado Slices
  • Lemon Juice (just a little on top)
  • Cucumber Slices (any desired amount)
  • Greens (any greens you choose)
  • Onions (preferably red onions)
  • Grandma Jones’ Jalapeno Pepper Jelly

Avocado is known for its somewhat muted, buttery taste. The lemon, cucumbers, and onions on this sandwich help brighten things up, but for a sweet ‘n’ spicy kick, you can’t go wrong with our delicious, vegan-friendly Jalapeno Pepper Jelly.

2. Artichoke Sandwich

Artichokes aren’t for everyone, and that’s okay. If you’re one of the people who enjoy their uniquely earthy, almost bitter taste, though, here’s a sandwich you definitely have to try. Frying the artichokes not only gives them a satisfying crispiness, it also helps cut down on some of that bitterness.

The natural nuttiness of avocado goes well with artichokes, while adding fried tomatoes help create a tart, tangy contrast. To round things out, you’ll want to provide a soft, creamy sweetness, like the kind you find in mangos. Don’t worry; Grandma Jones has just the thing.

Ingredients

  • Fried Artichoke Chunks
  • Fried Tomato Chunks
  • Avocado Spread
  • Grandma Jones’ Caribbean Mango Pepper Jelly

Whenever you’re making a sandwich, you can be confident that adding some of Grandma Jones’ Pepper jelly will take it to the next level. Our Caribbean mango pepper jelly provides a tasty, tropical zap and just the right amount of peppery zing.

3. Heirloom Tomato Sandwich

If you like the way tomatoes and avocado flavors mesh together but aren’t a fan of artichoke, try this next vegan sandwich. It is very similar to the last sandwich recipe, but switches things up in a few key ways.

First, we recommend specifically using heirloom tomatoes, which are known for their smoky sweetness and for having less acid than other varieties. We also recommend fresh basil, which brings a distinct minty undertone, and then a little bit of lettuce just for a bit of crunch.

Ingredients

  • Heirloom Tomato Slices
  • Avocado (spread or slices)
  • Basil (or other greens)
  • Lettuce
  • Grandma Jones’ Habanero Pepper Jelly

The natural sweetness of heirloom tomatoes means that, for this sandwich, you’ll want a variety of pepper jelly that leans in the other direction, more towards the spicy end of the spectrum. When it comes to spicy, it’s hard to beat Grandma Jones’Habanero Pepper Jelly. This one really brings the heat.

4.Romesco Cauliflower Sandwiches

One of the most versatile vegetables in the pantry, cauliflower has proven itself an incredible gift not just for vegans, but for anyone trying to eat healthier and cut down on the carbs. Cauliflower is very filling, low in carbs and fat, and high in vitamins C, B, and K.

Roast cauliflower takes on a rich, savory flavor that even life-long meat-eaters are sure to love. Paired with some freshly sliced tomatoes, raw red onion), and a little bit of cabbage, the following recipe makes for an exceptionally satisfying meal. Just don’t forget the pepper jelly.

Ingredients

  • Roast Cauliflower
  • Tomato Slices
  • Red Onions (raw)
  • Cabbage
  • Grandma Jones’ Traditional Pepper Jelly

For this one, we recommend our good ol’ fashioned Traditional Pepper Jelly. Together, roast cauliflower, tomato, and raw red onions are a pretty flavorful combo; we don’t need to add a lot of sweetness or spice. Grandma Jones Traditional Pepper Jelly has just enough of both to bring out the best in your sandwich.

5.Jackfruit & Apple Coleslaw Sandwich

If you’re still an occasional carnivore or a recent convert to veganism, one of the best ways of satisfying your cravings for meat is with jackfruit. When cooked, jackfruit has a unique taste many people describe as being similar to pulled pork.

This recipe is a little more involved than some of the previous ones. You’ll have to make your own apple coleslaw by combining shredded apples, red cabbage, and vegan mayo. It’s worth the effort, though, once you bite into this cowboy-style vegan sandwich.

Ingredients

  • Jackfruit (fried in BBQ seasoning)
  • Apple Coleslaw (shredded apples, shredded red cabbage, vegan mayo)
  • Grandma Jones’ Southwestern Chipotle Pepper Jelly

A little BBQ seasoning really brings out the faux meatiness of jackfruit, but what really gives this sandwich its country kick is the smoky goodness of Grandma Jones’ Southwestern Chipotle Pepper Jelly. Serve this one at your next cookout or cattle round-up. Yee-haw!
