The Best Beef Jerky Recipe

Serves:  1-2 People
Total Time: Approximately 48 Hours

We think beef jerky should have the title as one of the greatest snacks of all time. It is high in protein, a quick grab and go snack and simply delicious. Beef jerky has been around for a very long time, it is an excellent source of protein and generally speaking, beef jerky is a healthy and nutritious snack.

Removing the moisture from the meat, beef jerky has a long shelf life. Most beef jerky is marinated with a mixture of seasonings and liquid ingredients. The primary ingredient in any dried meat product is salt. One of the best things about beef jerky is it’s ready to eat, so it’s the perfect grab and go snack.

There are many delicious brands of beef jerky on the market today. However, it’s not difficult to make your own beef jerky.

Instructions:

  • Thinly slice a lean cut of beef (top round or london broil will be cheapest).
  • Season the meat with a mixture of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Put the meat strips in a ziplock bag and marinate in pepper jelly for 12-24 hours (keep refrigerated).
  • Remove the slices of meat, place on a towel or paper towel and pat dry.
  • Place the meat slices into a dehydrator (preferred method) or smoker and cook for 3-4 hours.
  • Let cool and then store meat in a closed tight container.
  • Enjoy!

*It’s a good idea to let the beef jerky dehydrate further at room temperature for an additional 24 hours before you package it. It may be best to freeze jerky if you are not going to eat it within 1 week or so.

Going Global - QVC Pepper Jam Premier

In 1999 Marcia’s grandson’s – Richard Jones III (Penn Lake, PA) and Kristopher Jones (Shavertown, PA) decided to take their Grandmother’s recipe, bottle it up, and share it with the world via e-commerce. Kris’s role in the company was head of Internet marketing, while Rick was head of product development and manufacturing. The pepperjam.com website was launched in late 1999 and the company began taking orders.

In early 2000 Rick, Kris, and their sister Jennifer attended the Fancy Food Gourmet Food Show in New York City where they met QVC Celebrity Chef Jorge Bruce. During that encounter Jennifer insisted Chef Jorge try Grandma Jones’ Pepper Jam. He loved it, which eventually led to Chef Jorge writing a 150+ recipe Pepper Jam cookbook and helping the company take Grandma Jones Pepper Jam on QVC.

As Kris remembers it, “Debuting Pepper Jam on QVC was surreal. It felt like we won a Super Bowl commercial. In less than 4 minutes we not only sold thousands of jars of product, but we affirmed that there is something very special about Grandma Jones Pepper Jam.”

Grandma Jones’ Pepper Jam continues to be sold online and at select brick and mortar locations throughout the United States.

It remains our pleasure to offer you limited access to our Grandmother’s cherished recipes.
