Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Everyone knows that. Most of us grew up hearing it from our mothers and grandmothers, and that’s doubly true for Grandma Jones. No overnight visit at Grandma Jones’ house was ever complete without a hearty breakfast meal. And no hearty breakfast meal was ever complete without some of Grandma Jones’ delicious homemade pepper jelly.

You already know that pepper jelly makes a great snack, appetizer, and entree. You already know that it’s an awesome ingredient to use in sauces, dips, marinades, and glazes. Now, it’s time for us to share with you some of the Jones family’s favorite ways of using pepper jelly at the breakfast table. So roll out of bed, run to the bathroom (don’t forget to wash your hands!), and head downstairs. We’ve got something tasty cooking just for you.

On-the-Go Breakfast Meals

For millions of people, making time to sit down and enjoy a good, hearty, well-balanced breakfast isn’t easy. A lot of us prefer smaller breakfast meals that we can eat on the go; we need something convenient, quick, portable, and packed with flavor to help wake us up and fuel us through the day.

Fortunately, adding pepper jelly into your morning routine is easy. Don’t worry, we’re not about to recommend you try pepper jelly-filled donuts (although now that we mention it… hmmm). We do, however, think that pepper jelly makes a great spread for toast, bagels, English muffins, and croissants. Indeed, while most folks are busy arguing over the merits of jelly vs jam, we’re trying to decide whether to satisfy our sweet tooths with a jar of Pomegranate Pepper Jelly or light a fire with a jar of Habanero Pepper Jelly.

If you really want a good morning pick-me-up, and you don’t mind doing meal prep the night before, why not try a homemade breakfast burrito made with pepper jelly instead of salsa or taco sauce? You’ll be amazed at the flavor profile that comes from the unique mix of fluffy eggs, savory sausage, salty bacon, and sweet ‘n’ spicy pepper jelly.

Sit-Down Breakfast Meals

If it’s the weekend, or you have the good fortune to be someone who doesn’t have to scarf down a quick breakfast running out the door, there are even more options for enjoying pepper jelly in the morning. Obviously, pepper jelly is a perfect addition to toast served alongside eggs and bacon, but that’s not the only place it shines. Here at the Jones household, we also like mixing pepper jelly in with crispy home fries, which takes the usual addition of peppers and onions to a whole new level of flavor.

For a smoky cowboy-style omelet, try a combination of black beans, guacamole, sour cream, and Southwestern Chipotle Pepper Jelly. Or, for something a bit lighter (and sweeter) have a homemade crepe instead, served with some fluffy whipped cream and a scoop of our tart ‘n’ tangy Cranberry Pepper Jelly. Here at the Jones household, we also like mixing pepper jelly in with crispy home fries. It takes the usual pairing of peppers and onions to a whole new level.

If you’re really looking for something special, though, and you’ve got a lot of mouths to feed, here’s a breakfast meal that will make everyone happy: breakfast pizza, made with homemade or store-bought dough, pepper jelly instead of tomato sauce, scrambled eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, and a whole lot of melted cheese. It’s unbeatable.
