If you grew up anything like those of us in the Jones household, you could always count on one thing. It doesn’t matter whether you were eating a sandwich for lunch or a lavish four-course dinner. When dining at Grandma Jones’ house, almost every meal came with a little side of coleslaw. And we’re talking homemade coleslaw, not the kind of stuff you get in a tiny plastic cup at a fast food joint.

With that in mind, we thought it would be fun to try our hand at making spicy coleslaw using Grandma Jones’ Pepper Jelly. To our delight, it turned out to be a palate-pleasing home run! After much experimenting and taste-testing in the Jones test kitchen, we think we’ve perfected our recipe for pepper jelly coleslaw.

Try This Sweet and Spicy Coleslaw Recipe

To make this dish, you’ll need just a few simple ingredients. The most important of these is Grandma Jones’ Pepper Jelly, of course! We recommend our Traditional Pepper Jelly as a starting point, but if you want to jazz things up, don’t be afraid to order a variety pack so you can play around with our other tasty flavors.

In addition to combining a little bit of sweet, a little bit of spicy, and a whole lot of deliciousness, this pepper jelly coleslaw recipe adds a bright crunch and freshness to any dish. It goes great with burgers and fish tacos, or as an accompaniment for barbecue.

Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know…

Ingredients for Pepper Jelly Coleslaw

A knife and a cheese grater next to shredded red cabbage and carrots

  • 2 cups shredded napa cabbage
  • 2 cups shredded red cabbage
  • 1/4 cup Grandma Jones’ Pepper Jelly
  • 2 cups thinly sliced bell peppers
  • 1/2 cup grated carrots
  • 1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Directions for Pepper Jelly Coleslaw

  • First, finely shred the cabbage using a knife or mandolin (the cooking utensil, not the musical instrument). You’ll also want to thinly slice the bell peppers and the onions, chop the cilantro, and grate the carrots.
  • Once the vegetables are prepared, combine the pepper jelly, olive oil, lime juice, and seasonings together in a small bowl. Whisk them until they are fully incorporated.
  • Combine your vegetables in a large bowl, then add in the pepper jelly mixture. Toss the veggies until everything is well-coated and thoroughly mixed.
  • Chill the coleslaw in your fridge for at least one hour before serving.
